The President of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, was born on June 8th, 1972. He attended the Portsmouth Secondary School and subsequently transferred to the Dominica Grammar School. When he became a High School Senior Roosevelt Skerrit was elected to be the President of the Student Council.
Roosevelt Skerrit attended New Mexico State University and the University of Mississippi, obtaining a B.A. in English and Psychology upon graduation. As a student at New Mexico State University Skerrit was the president of the Dominica Students Association.
Before leaving Dominica for University Roosevelt Skerrit was a member of the youth division of the Dominica Free Party, known as the Young Freedom Movement. Upon his return he joined the Dominica Labour Party.
