On Monday, February 1st, the Dominica flag was flown at half staff on all public buildings in the States, as a sign of mourning for Mrs. Mable Moir James. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, and the government of Dominica declared it a day of morning in respect for this former Member of the House of Assembly.
Mable Moir James created history in 1966 by becoming the first female Minister of Government in Dominica. She served as a minister in various capacities from 1966-1970 and was also the founder of the Women’s Guild and a proponent of women’s rights.
